I’m a hard working props designer who is always looking for a challenge. I don’t just strive for an artistic presentation, I also want all my props to be functional. I take my inspiration from the media I consume, whether it’s discovering new shows or watching the behind the scenes on movies, I’m always interested in improving my craft. I’ve always been drawn to arts and science. Theatre and film are great outlets for me because I get to challenge myself to make something that’s not just beautiful, but also functional.
I love projects that challenge me. Sometimes, challenging pieces can take the form of super technical shows or period pieces. As much as I love shows where I get to piece together interesting tech like a durable budget lightsaber, period pieces are where I shine. Period pieces require a lot of in depth research on the history surrounding a play. My research and attention to detail is what makes my period pieces shine. I find great interest in history, science, and art so researching and then crafting pieces based on my research is a lovely full circle moment for me, which is one of the reasons why I love theatre.
Between formal education and summer stock opportunities, I’ve learned skills in addition to crafting props. Aside from carpentry, I’ve also learned how to run four different models of spotlights, put in a springboard floor, hang lights, and beautifully roll marley. I love learning new things and getting involved with all sections of theatre. For a long term goal, I’m hoping to use my skills to expand into films. My dream is to get some of my work in a science fiction production. I feel like my love of science and my artistic finesse could help make great science fiction films. I’ve been credited in over twenty shows at five different theatres across Indiana and New York, and hopefully many more to come.
