Top Hat takes place in the 1940s, where floral arrangements were asymmetrical. Using a reference book from the 1940s, we created floral arrangements with spindly flowers sticking out from the tops and sides reflecting the style from the era.
For the flower beds around the March women's house, I incorporated both the March girl's assigned flowers, as well as wildflowers to create an overgrown, but well loved environment. The basket beside the couch had removable flowers for each of the March girls, as well as a base inside the basket so they would stay in place. The Laurence's flower vase (bottom left) used flowers that matched Laurie's costume. I chose sharper looking flowers and placed them in a very rigid pattern to represent the staunch traditionalism of the Laurence family.
